Val d’Isère has confirmed its claim as Europe’s top ski destination with the largest and most ambitious building project seen in the French Alps over the past 20 years, eclipsing even the creation of Arc 1950. The resort officially announced that work on Le Coin de Val, a giant 200 million euro (£170 million) redevelopment of the heart of the village, will begin this autumn. The five-year project will add 900 extra guest beds in two luxury hotels and two tourist residences, along with a host of chalets, new shops, services, and restaurants..
Val d’Isère beautiful original buildings and generational family businesses characterise Val d’Isère’s undeniable charm. Subsequently, developers have ensured any proposed plans would protect the soul of the resort which so many love.
“The new buildings will recreate the non-systematic design of old alpine villages, with large constructions being avoided to retain this aesthetic and hiding the world-class infrastructure and organisation taking place underneath. Buildings of different heights will alternate materials used for construction, with slated roofs in old stone, and wood or plaster facades aiding this effect.”
Whilst it is true that the infamous après-ski watering hole Dicks Tea Bar will relocate, developers o have minimised controversy and adversity to the projecting promising a positive experience for all those involved– especially those long-standing family businesses which will be reinstated in the new buildings, namely Le Petit Danois and La Casserole.
“The various business of Le Coin de Val, among which feature several local families, will take advantage of this overall operation by enabling them to rethink their offerings and adapt to requirements and expectation of the 21st-century client. Of course, they will do this without deviating from the authenticity that is loved by Val d’Isère’s wider permanent population and its yearly visitors.”
